Tweed doesn't get much of a look-in when it comes to gardening gloves, which is a shame, because it turns out to be a rather good fit for the job. Dig The Glove's Heritage Tweed pair takes that idea and runs with it, built in a stylish olive green with genuine leather trim adding the kind of detail you'd expect from a good pair of country boots rather than a standard garden glove.
The tweed fabric is more than a style choice. It's been finished so it doesn't stiffen up when it gets wet, which matters more than people expect, since a glove that goes rigid the moment it's damp is a glove you stop reaching for the second the weather turns. This one keeps its flex through drizzle, dew, and everything else a British growing season throws at it.
Underneath the good looks, there's proper functional design. The palm is padded, giving real cushioning through repetitive or tougher tasks like digging, raking, or hauling. The backs are elastane-rich, so the glove moves with your hand rather than fighting it, and two-way stretch mesh sits between the fingers to keep hands cool and maintain dexterity, useful when you're doing anything fiddly like potting up seedlings or handling small tools. A wrist strap with hook-and-loop fastening keeps everything snug and stops soil, grit, and debris working their way down into the glove, which is a small detail that saves a genuinely irritating mid-task interruption.
Despite the tweed exterior, these are machine washable at 30°C, so keeping them looking smart through a full season of use isn't a hassle. That's not always a given with a glove this good-looking; usually you're trading style for practicality one way or the other, and this pair manages to avoid that trade-off.
This M/L size suits hand measurements of 8 to 9 inches, taken around the hand just below the knuckles, excluding the thumb, with 0.5 inch added to the raw measurement to get your glove size. If you're between sizes or your measurement comes in closer to 9.5 inches, the L/XL version of this same tweed design is also available.
Part of the wider 'Dig The Glove' range of men's gardening gloves, this pair brings a level of tailoring you don't often find on the plot, without giving up any of the grip and protection a proper day's gardening demands.
